Ryan Newman, Nascar Race Team Fishes Okeechobee

Today was the annual Ryan Newman Racing Team Shiner tournament. After racing at Homestead on Sunday and the close of the Nascar season, Ryan and his entire team came for a day of fishing. There were 40 some team members all trying to catch the biggest 3 fish limit of bass. This year I had the pleasure of fishing with 2 members of Ryans pit crew, June-Bug Moody & Chris Brewer. Both of these guys are excellent fishermen and it was evident they spend a lot of time on the water right from the start. After leaving Okeechobee Fishing Headquarters and launching our boats at Okeetantie park we proceeded directly to a spot I have been fishing for a few days. Today was not a disappointment. Each of the competing teams had 10 dozen shiners to use, we went through our shiners in about 4 hours catching seventy fish. We never got a really big fish today, but we did manage to Win The Tournament! with our 21lbs of Okeechobee Bass, we had 6 fish over six lbs today and 1 just over 7lbs, our 3 biggest fish won the event much to our surprise! There were several huge fish caught by other teams 3 8lb fish, 1 10lb fish, but none of the other teams could match our catch of 21 lbs.

Every one that fished had a great time, after the tournament the local Ranger dealer Ellis Cole fed us a great barbecue, & then presented the trophys. A great and fun time!
