Big Bass! 9lb 10oz

Today I fished with John, George & Becky from Indiana. As I have been saying all week the stable weather has been improving the bite every day. Today was the culmination of a week of warm stable weather, with the Bass going on a feeding frenzy, we caught 45 Bass in 4 hours, all on wild shiners. The Star of the day however was Becky , who caught a 9lb 10oz Okeechobee giant. The stir this fish created was enormous, first with the strike and the catch. but even more once it was boated and weighed proving it to be the largest Bass of 2006, thus far. Congratulations Becky!

January 6th 2006

January 6, 2006- I fished with 2 fishing pro's today Tim Herndon and Morris Nix are from Marietta Ga. and both of them fish the Stren tournament trail as well as the BFL tour. Our day of fishing started with us running into some schooling fish at our very first stop. We caught about 20 fish from the school before they quit on us, Morris lost a giant fish at the boat, she got tangled in the anchor rope and broke off, I could tell he was very disappointed. We then made a few other stops that did not pan out for us, so we made a long run to a spot that has produced in the past. The moment our shiner hit the water the cork disappeared, and the action continued for about 45 minutes resulting in another 24 fish. Tim hooked a 7lb fish and landed it, it was hooked deeply and I was having difficulty removing it, at that same time Morris hooked another big fish, so I stuck Tim's first big fish in the live well to net the fish Morris had on, it turned out to weigh 7lbs 10oz, in the meantime Tim had thrown another rod with a shiner into the same hole and instantly had another big fish on, it turned out to be the largest of the 3 fish, it weighed 8lbs 3oz. So here we are with 3 big spawning females in the boat at the same time, I told both guys this was the picture opportunity of a lifetime, and we took full advantage, photographing all 3 fish together before releasing all 3 unharmed to be caught again. It was one of my most memorable guide trips ever, and I was lucky enough to spend it with my 2 new friends.

January 5, 2006

January 5, 2006- I fished with a young couple from New Jersey, Alexandra & Charlie, are both college students. The wind blew about 25 mph today but we managed to do well in spite of it. We caught 19 fish in our 4 hour trip, with Alexandra catching a 7lb 12oz Okeechobee Giant. I never would have known she had not bass fished before, she fought and landed this big fish like a real pro! It was another great day on the Big "O", the big bass barrage continues, I have never seen a run of big fish like we are experiencing this last several months.

January 2nd & 3rd, 2006

January 3, 2006- I fished with Mike Giarla , his son Robert & cousin Anthony Giarla today, this trip was a birthday present for Robert, great parents! Today the fishing started very slowly, for the first 3 hours we only had 7 fish, and we moved 6 times in that period.
I was starting to get a litttle disgusted with the attitude of the fish today! We made another move at 10am and it proved to be key! The fish started biting fast and furious, we caught another 19 fish bring our total for the half day to 26 fish. The star of the day was 13 year old Anthony, he caught & released a 9lb 6oz Okeechobee spawner, that was swollen with eggs.
It was a great day on the water with Mike, and 2 great kids!

January 2, 2006- I fished with Phil & Linda Costabile of Maryland today. The fishing
showed signs of returning to normal after last weeks cold front. We caught 37 Bass in our 8 hours of fishing, all of our fish were caught on live wild shiners, 50% of them were caught under a bobber, the rest were caught freelining. Today the fishing, and the company, were both good!
